Eating Disorder Treatment in Calgary

Dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders in adolescents and young adults, EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre provides a safe place to work toward recovery. We offer around-the-clock support from our experienced and compassionate staff, including physicians, nurses, counsellors, support staff, and a registered dietitian. Individualized care plans guide patients through each step of the recovery process, and younger patients have the opportunity to keep up on their school work.

Program Eligibility

Treatment at EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre is designed for patients who are:

• 12-24 years of age
• Diagnosed with an eating disorder
• Medically stable
• Willing to attend and participate in treatment
• Committed to treatment, along with the participation of their family

The EHN Sandstone Approach

EHN Sandstone delivers treatment with a multidisciplinary team of eating disorder professionals including doctors and nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, nursing, counseling, and support staff.  Therapy includes:

• Weekly individual and family therapy, plus daily group therapy
• Nutritional rehabilitation and structured meal support therapy
• Self-care and wellness activities
• Meals prepared by Red Seal Chefs
• Academic support available to assist younger as well as community reintegration

A Serene and Safe Setting

Built in 1967, the Sandstone house was originally home to the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate convent and now serves as a peaceful, intimate setting for recovery. Nestled in a quiet Calgary neighbourhood, EHN Sandstone Recovery Centre offers a warm, home-like environment where patients can heal and thrive. The cozy private rooms and inviting common areas are designed to ensure a comfortable and relaxing stay. With a high staff-to-patient ratio, you’ll receive exceptional, one-on-one attention from our compassionate clinicians, making this a safe and supportive space for your recovery journey.

Evidence-Based Approach

Our live-in eating disorders treatment program is in a community-based setting and features an integrative model of care grounded patient and family-centric practices. We utilize evidence-based treatments and therapeutic techniques, including:

• Nutritional rehabilitation to restore and normalize eating and food related habits, including meal support therapy and meal supervision.
• Individual psychotherapy for an empathetic and safe space to discuss personal recovery and develop treatment goals.
• Family sessions to support the family system and work through treatment goals that include skill and strategy integration.
• Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) for developing the skills and strategies needed to manage emotions, practice mindfulness, and work through difficult times.
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to assist in developing helpful thought patterns and healthy behaviours while working toward recovery and beyond.
• Process groups supported by therapists and peers to work through situations and process emotions through different perspectives, support, encouragement and feedback in a safe environment.
• Psychoeducational sessions focused on educational topics and learning life skills.
• Wellness activities such as yoga and art sessions that support the mind and body’s healing.
• Medication assistance therapy, if needed, to provide additional support in managing symptoms.
